Accommodation & Rates

Glamping at Lower Monkton was established in 2021 and every year since we have improved and refined the experience for our guests. We have aimed to create the type of place we would like to go as a family, and we are renowned for being ‘picky’ :-)

Each tent has it’s own bathroom including hot shower and flushing toilet! These are found in the ‘stable’

We have made a conscious decision for the forseable future to only have two tents on our field. This maintains the exclusive and luxurious feel for our guests. It also means that the whole field can be booked allowing friends to socialise together in peace.

Rates. MINIMUM TWO NIGHTS STAY. Check out 10am Check in 2pm ( allowing for COVID secure changeover) - contact us and we can try to be flexible with times.

Pili-Pala (pill-ee pall-ah)

Pili- Pala is another beautifully descriptive welsh word translating to butterfly in English. Our bell tents are nestled in the ‘top field’ at Lower Monkton. We have done our best not to disturb the wildlife and as such the butterflies can be seen amongst the long grass, let us know which you spot.

Other FAQs

Children - As the parents of four young children we are more than happy to welcome nature loving families. We will do everything we can to make your stay as comfortable and relaxing as possible. Need things to keep your little ones occupied but don’t have room in your luggage. Have no worries. We will put together an activity basket to keep them busy - that is when they aren’t having a brilliant time exploring the great outdoors

Dogs - As much as we love them I’m afraid that we are a no dog site. This is for a few reasons. One we feel that the tents remain cleaner and nicer for everyone if they are dog free. We also have two farm cats, Harry and Ron. I’m certain you will meet them as they are the friendliest cats in the world - so friendly in fact we must ensure your tents are zipped up if you are not in them. ( They will be put away in their room during meal times etc and we will keep an eye on when you are eating so that they don’t disturb too much). Also as we try to resurrect the farm back to its original state we are also hatching chickens. We appreciate that for some people this will change their decision to stay with us and for that we are sorry. We can recommend a local kennels if that is something you might be interested in for the evenings.

Wifi - We cannot lie - Lower Monkton is in a remote area and there is no wifi in the tents. There should however be 4G signal. We are very happy for you to use the house wifi if necessary and there is a bench you can sit on outside which reaches the connection. We do feel however, that no Wifi is one of the joys of staying here, we can offer a real rural escape.

Noise - As we have mentioned before we want to cater towards individuals and families who appreciate nature and all that a rural remote environment has to offer. Whilst most of our neighbours are of the wildlife variety, we do have very lovely human ones in the old barn on the farm. We ask that noise levels are kept to a normal level. We are certain that this wont be a problem for our guests, but reserve the right to ask people to leave if there is ever a persistent problem. We also should mention that our resident buzzards nest in the old trees surrounding the glamping field. We would love it if their home was permanent and significant noise could jeopardise this.

Train, planes and automobiles

We understand that for some the idea of bringing a car is not the dream holiday or perhaps you are jetting in from further afield! We are very happy to offer a complimentary collection and drop off to the following

  • Cardiff International Airport

  • Llantwit Major Train Station

  • Bridgend Rail Station

No Smoking Site

Lower Monkton is in its entirety a no smoking site. It simply is not safe with the tents, and grass. Sorry if this puts anyone off staying but this is a rule we will not change. Guests are welcome to walk to the road to smoke.
